Dorothy Gordon, 75, says she was passing out food at the Chevron on Washington Road in East Point in July when someone shot her in the back. The bullet damaged her spine.

She wants the person who left her in a wheelchair caught.

Gordon says the shooting changed her life forever.

She spends most of her day writing in her journal: “Remember other people who love you,” she said as she wrote those words in her journal in her room. “And be thankful for all those who surround you.”

Gordon used to be much more active and independent.

“I have been independent my whole life,” she told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.

All of that changed back in July at the Chevron on Washington Road.

“I was minding my own beeswax,” she recalled.

Gordon says she was out donating food when a man she was giving food to said he heard a gunshot.

“I didn’t know that I had been hit,” until she couldn’t move her legs.

The bullet damaged her spine. She’s been in a rehab for months.

East Point police say video shows a man in a tree in a wooded area shooting towards the gas station, then running from the scene.

Gordon says three other men were near her. She doesn’t think she was the target.

“I think it was just a fool who was outside and had a gun,” Gordon said.

She delivered the donated goods to several locations. Now she’s unable to.

“I miss it every time I’m supposed to give it out. Every Wednesday and Friday,” Gordon said.

She wants the person who left her unable to walk and confined to a wheelchair in custody as soon as possible.

“I would love to know that someone has been apprehended and brought to justice,” she said.

Gordon says she most likely will never walk again.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them. They say you can even use their anonymous text tip line. You can text EPPDGA TO 847411.
