Deal campaign staffer killed in crash on Georgia 400

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A member of Gov. Nathan Deal's campaign staff died in a crash on Georgia 400 Tuesday afternoon.

Mack Burgess, 25, worked closely with Deal as a field staffer for the Georgia Republican Party.

Burgess, of Roswell, was a 2008 graduate of Centennial High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2012, officials said.

Gov. Nathan Deal released the following statement in part:

"Mack was an incredible young man, smart, hard-working, with a bright future ahead of him. This is a terrible loss for everyone in our organization and for anyone who knew him. We are going to take some time to grieve and pay our respects to Mack and to the Burgess family. I ask that everyone bear with us as we take a break from the campaign to mourn a life ended much too soon."
