DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The girlfriend of an Air Force veteran killed by police doesn't accept an officer's claims her boyfriend was high on dangerous drugs
Anthony Hill’s girlfriend, Bridget Anderson, says the officer gave a power point presentation to a grand jury last week on the dangers of a street drug, called bath salts, which can cause bizarre violent behavior.
That grand jury wants to hear more facts in the case. In the meantime, his girlfriend says her heart is hanging in the balance.
“It's like he was making up excuses. He had an hour long power point presentation on bath salts that were not found in Anthony’s system. So for me, he was like making excuses for killing a human,” Anderson said.
Hill was off his bi-polar medication when he stripped off his clothes and went roaming around a DeKalb apartment complex in March.
Police say he lunged at Officer Robert Olsen who shot and killed Hill.
But Anderson says her boyfriend was not acting violently toward anyone at the apartment complex and that the officer who killed him could have used a Taser or pepper spray instead of his gun.
“He was completely naked. He could have kicked him in his private parts and he would have been down on the floor,” Anderson said.
District Attorney Robert James says he will follow-up a civil grand's jury's recommendation to gather more facts in the shooting, including re-interviewing the officer who pulled the trigger and another officer who responded to the scene.
An attorney for Hills' family expects the DA will eventually move for an indictment.
“I think the evidence in this is overwhelming and incriminate beyond a shadow of a doubt this officer in murdering Anthony Hill,” attorney Christopher Chesnut said.
“I have been a warrior through this. I just got to keep fighting for justice,” Anderson said.
