“Around 5,000 U.S. soldiers are arriving in Bavaria in the coming days to strengthen Europe,” Söder wrote. “NATO is a guarantor for security and peace in the world. We are grateful for their close friendship.”
Georgia governor Brian Kemp said he is praying for the troops’ safety and for the safety of the Ukrainian people.

The troops will help defend NATO’s eastern flank, according to German officials. NATO has deployed the troops as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine extends the country’s military power to the borders of several NATO member states.
Ukraine itself is not a NATO member state, though allies have said they are ready to provide military, financial and humanitarian assistance to the country.
