ATLANTA — Georgia Tech was seconds away from becoming Florida State's 29th consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference victim … for the 2nd time. But Lance Austin's 78-yard touchdown return off a blocked field goal saved the Yellow Jackets from that distinction AND it helped Georgia Tech snap its own 5-game losing streak, with a 22-16 victory in front of a sold-out Bobby Dodd Stadium crowd.
Back on October 21, 1995, the Seminoles set the ACC record for consecutive conference wins at 29, with a victory over Georgia Tech. But Austin’s heroics, which came after Pat Gamble’s block of the 56-yard field goal attempt by FSU’s Roberto Aguayo, prevented the Seminoles from matching their own ACC mark.
The win, which came in front of Tech’s first sellout crowd since the 2011 season, puts an end to the longest Yellow Jackets losing streak since 1994.
