BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — The Barrow County School System is mourning the loss of a beloved teacher who died after a cancer battle.
Statham Elementary School teacher April Burnette died this week. She taught at the school for 11 years.

Principal Sun McHann remembered her as a “ball of sunshine.”
“Ms. Burnette brought joy to all who knew her and sparked a love of learning in our students. We were blessed to have her teaching our Wildcats for the past 11 years. Her caring spirit uplifted us all,” McHann said.
The school will have counselors available for students and staff. McHann said she will share memorial arrangements when they become available.
