Georgia mother arrested on murder charges in death of 12-year-old daughter

A Georgia mother has been arrested for second degree murder in the death of her 12-year-old daughter.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Mary Kathrine “Katie” Horton, 37, was arrested August 27. The GBI was called in to investigate the death of Kaitlyn Yozviak, 12, in Wilkinson County on August 26. Wilkinson County is just west of Macon.

Dispatchers received a call around 2 p.m. from Horton, who said that her daughter was unresponsive. Yozviak was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed Yozviak was “subjected to excessive physical pain due to medical negligence.”
