ROME, Ga. — A Rome man has been sentenced to spend nearly the next decade in prison on federal drug and gun charges.
Prosecutors say Aubrey Floyd, 45, pleaded guilty to federal charges of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Oct. 2021.

Floyd reportedly sold methamphetamine to an ATF informant at a motel in Jan. 2020 and then sold the same informant the pistol he brought to the drug deal with the serial number removed, prosecutors say. They add that prior to his federal convictions, Floyd had been convicted of nearly two dozen other felonies and misdemeanors on the state level.
Prosecutors say some of these charges come from gun and drug offenses, but many stem from violent acts against at least eight women that Floyd admitted to choking, hitting and restraining against their will.

“Floyd’s repeated felony and misdemeanor state convictions show his complete disregard for the law,” said U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine.
“This conviction and sentence demonstrate the importance of the Rome Violent Repeat Offender initiative and should serve as a warning that this office will pursue those who put the community at risk by unlawfully using and possessing firearms.”
