Georgia man dies weeks after Easter tornadoes

A man has died Thursday from injuries he received from a deadly tornado that ripped through north Georgia on Easter.

Harlan Blackstock, 57, is the eighth confirmed death from the tornado in Murray County, according to the Hamilton County, Tennessee, Medical Examiner's Office.

The seven other victims were all adults who lived in at least three different mobile homes.

The EF-2 tornado touched down overnight and leveled homes and buildings down to the foundation. The tornado had estimated peak winds of 135 mph.

Gov. Brian Kemp later toured the neighborhood that first responders called a “war zone.” Kemp met with the victims, their families and volunteers. He said it looked like a bomb went off in the neighborhood.

Officials estimate that 75 homes were destroyed where the storm touched down.

One man was killed in Bartow County when a tree fell on his home. The National Weather Service confirmed that tornado was an EF-1 storm, with winds up to 90 mph.

Authorities confirmed tornadoes were also reported in Thomaston, South Fulton, Putnam and Chattooga counties.
