Georgia county commissioner, son charged with battery, assault, terroristic threats

HART COUNTY, Ga. — A Hart County Commissioner and his son are facing charges.

Hart County District 4 Commissioner James Ricky Carter, 64, and his son, 34-year-old Jake Elliot Carter, were arrested early Sunday morning after a dispute.

According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, deputies were called to a home on Lavonia Highway in Hartwell, Ga. in reference to a dispute that started late Saturday night.

Details on that dispute have not been released.

Jake Carter was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, terroristic threats and three counts of cruelty to children.

Ricky Carter was charged with terroristic threats and pointing a gun/pistol towards another.

Sheriff Cleveland says the investigation is ongoing and that more charges will be filed.
