Georgia boy's death leaves distraught father arrested

MADISON COUNTY, Ga. — A 10-year old Madison County boy’s death from a brain aneurysm left his father so distraught that he was arrested after a struggle at a hospital, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

Brent Samuel Weaver of Colbert died Tuesday at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center after his father found him unresponsive at home, the newspaper reported. The boy had been experiencing painful headaches the past two weeks.

At the hospital, Weaver became distraught after he was told his son had died, Vaughn said.

Deputies who responded tried to move the father, Samuel Dennis Weaver, away so they could perform CPR on the boy while an ambulance was en route, Chief Deputy Lynn Vaughn said. Weaver became irate and punched an officer, prompting deputies to place him in handcuffs.

“He busts holes in the wall, throws chairs at medical staff and becomes very, very violent,” Vaughn said. Hospital security officials used a Taser to subdue him.

Weaver was charged with felony obstruction and was released from jail on $11,100 bond, the paper reported.

“The only thing he hit was property,” said the boy’s aunt, Eva Cowart. “They Tased him, and that broke my heart. He went down to his knees and gave up.”
