The signs were taken down by 5:30 a.m.
"This is a far different scenario from last week with temperatures remaining above freezing while th precipitation is falling. Also, lighter amound of precipitation will further limit any accumulation potential. The greatest concern will be thin patchy black ice (Thursday night) as temperatures fall into the 20s by sunrise," the National Weather Service said.
Local police agencies also issued advisories on their Facebook pages.
"Thanks for addressing the signs in your newscast, Karen, we will try to get the erroneous message removed," a NWS meteorologist said.
Minton and Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist David Chandley said we may see some precipitation this evening, but a snow or ice event is not expected. Stay with Severe Weather Team 2 for updated forecasts throughout the day.
The Georgia Department of Transportation signs on Interstates 75 and 85 appear to have been put up in an abundance of caution after last week's storm.
They read, "Winter Storm Watch. Atlanta metro area. Black ice possible," from Tuesday at 2 p.m. through Friday at 10 a.m. A winter storm watch has not been issued.
The National Weather Service's weather statement indicates the possibility of light rain turning into wintry mix Thursday evening in portions of north and central Georgia. The statement indicates that any frozen precipitation that hits the ground should quickly melt.
