CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into what happened during a deputy-involved shooting outside a Dollar General store in Carroll County.
Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke with a neighbor who heard the gunshots that woke many people along Highway 166, east of Carrollton, early Monday.
Officials say a deputy was on patrol shortly after 3 a.m. when he noticed a man inside a car, parked in front of the Dollar General.
Jessica Sizemore, who lives across the street, said people don't usually hang out at the store after hours. However, there is plenty of foot traffic in the area.
"Not over there, but walking up the street a lot," Sizemore said.

The GBI says the deputy approached the car, and there was some sort of "encounter" between him and the man inside the car.
A short time later, the deputy fired his gun several times. The man was struck in the hand, treated at a nearby hospital and then taken to jail.
The deputy was not injured. But neighbors like Sizemore say this shooting was a wake-up call.
"I am definitely going to be more alert now, for sure," she said.
In a statement to Channel 2, the GBI said it will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred.
Once the GBI has completed its investigation, the case will go to the Carroll County District Attorney's Office for review.
