PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Engineers are trying to figure out how to remove a garbage truck from a Douglasville home without causing the house to collapse.
Homeowner Douglas Peach says he left his garage a few minutes before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The garbage truck that crashed into Peach's home was parked on a hill.
One waste management worker says he set the break on the truck, and got out to retrieve garbage. That's when he heard the truck's airbreak release.
The runaway truck rolled down the street, crashed into a tree, and plowed into the side of Peach's house.
"All hell broke loose. The building just shook like (multiple) bombs, bang, bang," Peach said. "(It) Knocked me back against the doorjamb, and it was just an incredibly shocking feeling."
Peach says he didn't even know what happened until garbage men showed up at his house to make sure he was okay.
The 20 ton garbage truck hit a major support beam in Peach's house.
Engineers are working to remove the garbage truck without Peach's house collapsing.
Peach says his insurance company has deemed his home unsafe to live in, and moved him to a motel.
