FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The owner of a metro Atlanta therapy center is being charged with Medicaid fraud after a psychiatrist somehow kept providing services despite being dead.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr says Desmond Maul, 74, was indicted on one count of Medicaid fraud and 32 counts of false statements and writings.

Maul owns Family 360, Inc., an outpatient mental health and chemical dependency service provider.
Starting in 2018, Family 360 began working with a licensed psychiatrist to provide services to its Medicaid members, Carr said.
But that psychiatrist passed away in 2021.

Carr’s office says that Maul continued billing Medicaid for services as if the psychiatrist had performed or supervised them. They say he even put the psychiatrist’s name and signature on treatment notes from after his death.
The indictment says that between August 2021 and September 2023, Maul received more than $88,000 from Medicaid.
“When someone takes advantage of a system designed to assist our most vulnerable Georgians, we don’t turn a blind eye,” said Carr.
