Family welfare check leads to discovery of man found dead inside Sandy Springs home

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A teen is facing a murder charge after a man was found dead inside a Sandy Springs apartment, police said.

Sandy Springs police said officers were called to The Celebration at Sandy Springs Apartments on Roswell Road around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 after family members requested a welfare check.

When officers entered the apartment, they found Williams Lopez Rodriguez, 25, dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives launched an investigation and identified Christopher Castillo,17, as the suspect. Authorities said Castillo had left the scene before officers arrived.

The next day, Cobb County police arrested Castillo during a traffic stop near Barrett Parkway and Mall Boulevard.

Castillo has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
