Forsyth County sheriff releases new video of courthouse shooting

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County sheriff wants residents to know exactly what happened the day of a deadly shooting on the courthouse steps.

Channel 2's Wendy Corona was with Sheriff Duane Piper as he presented new video and pictures of the shooting incident from June during a presentation at a Rotary Club meeting.

The video and pictures have never been publicly released before.

Corona said residents saw the level of extreme terror one man was hoping to inflict on Forsyth County citizens.

The video shows Dennis Marx driving a Nissan Armada to the courthouse front steps.  You see the deputy inside the courthouse jump into action.

"I got shots fired, shots fired. A vehicle just drove up from the sidewalk," a deputy could be heard saying on the video.

Forsyth County residents saw "behind the scenes" of that chilling day when Marx prepared himself to terrorize.

Law enforcement said they are now comfortable with sharing and showing citizens what they dealt with and stopped from happening that morning.

"This is how Dennis Marx's mind works. He labels it the big day," Piper said showing the shooters to-do list with most all his points scratched off as complete.

A look inside the SUV revealed flash bangs in the center console and grenades, rigged with a zero second fuse.

Another photo showed a homemade necklace that Marx wore that spelled out his hate for Forsyth County.

Corona also learned that while Marx was "gearing himself up" for "big day," he shot himself in the left leg and continued on as he had planned, never rendering any first aid to himself.

Marx had been scheduled to go to court that day, but did not. He even warned his attorney to stay away.

Marx was shot to death by deputies before he could get into the courthouse.
