Former UGA Bulldogs offensive assistant dies at 31 in Louisiana

LOUISIANA — A former graduate assistant with the University of Georgia bulldogs died on the field in Louisiana Saturday morning.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette announced the death of assistant football coach D.J. Looney, 31, on Twitter.

Looney was in his third season with the Louisiana football program served as an offensive line coach.

“The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Department of Athletics mourns the sudden loss of Louisiana Football assistant coach D.J. Looney, who passed away Saturday morning following a heart attack during a team workout at Cajun Field,” officials with the team said.

In 2016 season, he was an offensive graduate assistant at UGA on Kirby Smart’s squad. The team reached the Liberty Bowl that year.
