Firefighters at Station 21 had recently completed pet care certification through VEG ER for Pets.
On the crew’s next shift, firefighters were called to help a pregnant dog experiencing labor complications at a veterinary clinic.

The crew responded with lights and sirens as they got close to the clinic to provide extra hands during the delivery, according to Cobb County Fire.
“We officially got certified in pet care, they didn’t tell me that we’d be delivering puppies a shift later,” said Damien Whitehead with Cobb County Fire.
During the delivery, firefighters helped clear placental sacs, suctioned the puppies’ airways and noses, administered necessary medications and placed the newborns into incubators.
Crew members said the process was similar to delivering human babies.
