Fire spreads between 2 homes, neighbors knock on doors to wake up owners

Atlanta firefighters worked to get a house fire under control after the flames spread to a neighbor’s home.

The fire happened just after 4 a.m. on Burton Road in northwest Atlanta. Atlanta Fire Rescue told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach that the fire started in the main house and spread to the carport next door.

Everyone made it out of both homes and no injuries were reported.

Jamecca Lassiter says she was asleep in her bed when someone started to bang on her front door and told her the house and carport were on fire. Lassiter told Gehlbach she grabbed her sister and her son and the three of them ran out of the house.

“The neighbor’s house was on fire. It transported to our carport which is a little underpass area. I’m not sure how much of our house was caught on fire, but our house was affected as well,” Lassiter said.

Lassiter said her family was told the house was unlivable.

“Devasting honestly. I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’ll be OK,” she said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
