Norcross, Ga. — A Norcross mother of two says nine possums have been pulled from her apartment in the Highland Lakes Apartments.
Lakisha Dominick said they're coming into her apartment through the fireplace.
They're hanging from potted trees in the apartment and her daughter even caught two of them swimming in a toilet, Dominick said.
"The 8-year-old went to use the bathroom and sits on the toilet and something splashes on her," Dominick said. "She turned around and looked and said 'Aah! Mom, there's possums in the toilet!"
Dominick walked Channel 2's Carl Willis through the apartment and showed him several pictures of possums that her husband stomped to death after they ran into the living room.
"The possums can have the whole apartment," she said. "We're going to lock it up and give it to them."
She said the staff at the Highland Lakes Apartments has not been helpful.
An expert at Critter Patrol said the possums may have found a food source, such as mice or rats in the building.
Another expert from TruTech Animal Removal said he trapped possums at this same complex years before Dominick moved in. He said management decided not to seal holes in one of the buildings because of cost.
The apartment staff locked the door when Willis approached to ask questions.
An employee later came out and told Willis to call the corporate office, but there was no response.
"The only thing you can tell me is break my lease?" Dominick asked. "Are you serious?"
Later in the afternoon, Dominick found a new letter on her door.
In it, the staff offered to waive her rent for May and move her to a new apartment for free in June.
Still, Dominick said she doesn't feel comfortable living in the apartment for another month.
She said she doesn't have money to pick up and move somewhere else.
"You've got to accommodate me. You’ve got to put me and my kids somewhere because now you have me in harms way."
