STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A metro Atlanta family is left heartbroken after armed burglars broke into their home and shot and killed their beloved dog.
The shooting happened April 22 in the 2100 block of Rosser Place in Stone Mountain.
“I screamed his name and then I cuddled him, and then I obviously called 911,” Cathy Bruce said.
Now Bruce and her family are on a mission to find the people who shot their pet, Toby, two times before he died.
"Oh, Toby, he was the most fun dog. He would want to play all the time," Bruce said.
Toby was a rescue dog Bruce and her husband adopted two years ago.
“He did everything we asked, and that’s what he lived for, was to please us and to love us. And for us to love him,” Bruce said.

When Bruce came home last week from work, she noticed something wrong. The back door was open and she immediately wondered about Toby.
“As soon as I entered the hallway, I saw him,” Bruce said.
She found Toby shot to death.
“As soon as I saw his body, I thought, 'Toby, he must have been so scared,'” Bruce said. “Probably terrified and I would have wanted to be with him during that time.”
With bullet holes littering the hallway, it became clear at least one armed burglar had entered the home, stolen electronics and killed Toby.
“Probably what they’re going to pawn for a couple hundred bucks they had to kill our dog,” Bruce said.
The family started a GoFundMe page, raising money for a reward that they hope will help lead police to their dog's killer and help get justice for their beloved Toby.
“Every time I walk down the hallway, I see Toby and it’s really, really horrifying and tough,” Bruce said.
The family did not have security cameras, but they do now.
If you have any information on who may have killed Toby, call DeKalb police.
