Channel 2’s Richard Elliot spoke with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger about the early voting turnout.

What voters need to know before they head to the polls, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.

While this is not a presidential election, Raffensperger says there’s enough interest in the other races to fuel the desire to vote.

“You’re voting for a new governor, attorney general, lieutenant governor, secretary, up and down the ballot. Plus you have a U.S. Senate seat. So there’s an awful lot on the table there. So I think that’s why you have a strong turnout,” Raffensperger said.

The heavy turnout led to some issues in Henry County last week. Some early voting places delayed opening, leading to hours-long lines. Raffensperger told Elliot those issues were resolved.

“You know you just have some of those issues. And I think some people maybe were taken back and didn’t expect. You know, support the turnout that we had, but they adjusted quickly and the rest of the week went smooth.”

Henry County Board of Elections did meet on Monday afternoon to discuss if it needed to open its other early voting locations a week early. The board decided to stick with the original plan for those two locations to open next week.
