SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — An abandoned property in East Point could soon be knocked down after years of complains from neighbors.
Lynn Brown-Smith says she has been trying to get this abandoned apartment complex in South Fulton County torn down for five years.
Overgrown grass, boarded up windows and heaps of garbage is what Brown-Smith drives by every day.
"They put the fence up, they tore it down and people just been using it as a dumping ground. It's ridiculous," Brown-Smith said.
The former Terraces at East Point Apartments on Woodberry Avenue has withstood two fires and years of alleged neglect.
That could change as some city officials want the four acre property near highway 166 demolished.
Councilwoman Latonya Martin is hopeful a judge will rule Monday in favor of the city over the property's Florida-based owner.
"This is an eye sore in the community and it must come down," Martin said.
Channel 2's Matt Johnson looked through property records and found there have been six owners over sixteen years.
The idea of another new owner doesn't solve the problem for the councilwoman leading the charge to start over.
"We don't want this property sold," Martin said. "We want this property demolished. It's been like this for entirely too long."
Martin would like to see an upscale development down the road.
Neighbors say they'll take anything but what is there now.
The hearing on this apartment complex is open to the public.
