FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — Some Floyd County residents say they got bad gas from a busy gas station. They said the fuel they pumped into their tanks had water in it.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture shut down the pumps.

Channel 2's Berndt Petersen talked to three people who said they filled up their cars at the Citgo station along Alabama Highway in Rome last Sunday. One of them had to be towed away.

Customer Joseph Baldwin said when he tried to drive away after filling up his tank, his car wouldn’t go.

“I never left the pump," Baldwin said. “It would not start back up."

Ronnie Head was hired to figure out what went wrong. He found water, and lots of it.

"It’s in the actual tank,” Head said. “What’s happening is, these spill buckets are filling up and the manholes are filling up. And the water is going in through the fill caps.”

Head said the tanks and lines will have to be drained and repairs made. Meantime, Baldwin said repairs to his car could cost thousands and he wants the owner of the station to make things right.

“I missed a day of work. I spent the past two days draining the tank, and replacing every bit of my fuel system. It shorted everything out,” Baldwin said.

The station manager did not want to be interviewed on camera but he said he’d pass along Petersen’s number to the owner. Petersen hasn’t heard back yet.
