ATLANTA — More than 20 dogs rescued from an alleged puppy mill in Mississippi were adopted over the weekend.

Thirteen of the dogs were available at the Atlanta Humane Society's Alpharetta location on Mansell Road Saturday. People began lining up Friday night for the chance to adopt one of the dogs.

Nine other dogs were available Sunday at the Howell Mill shelter in midtown.

The Humane Society says eight other rescued puppies are still undergoing medical treatment. They are expected to be up for adoption in mid-December.

More than 100 animals were rescued from the alleged puppy mill in late October. The Atlanta Humane Society, who assisted in the rescue, brought 30 of the dogs back to Atlanta for medical treatment.

They completed tooth extractions and treatment for ear infections, upper respiratory infections and other minor issues.

The dogs are between 8 weeks old and 10 years old. Of the 22 up for adoption, there are three Italian greyhounds, two Pomeranians, four Shih Tzus, two Yorkshire terriers, three Boston terriers, seven poodles and one Schnauzer. Each dog has been spayed/neutered and has a microchip.
