DANEILSVILLE, Ga. — An officer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while on duty Thursday.
Captain Stan Elrod was a 28-year veteran with the DNR’s law enforcement division and worked as a region supervisor in Gainesville.

Elrod was training in Danielsville when the accident happened.
“He will be remembered for his selfless service and complete devotion to the safety of his fellow officers, fellow Georgians, and his state’s natural resources,” officials said. “We are beyond grateful to have worked with and known Captain Elrod, as he truly made us all better by example.”
It’s unclear if anyone is facing charges in Elrod’s death.
Gov. Brian Kemp tweeted his condolences to the family.
