BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said one of its own escaped injury after someone hit his cruiser.
The sheriff’s office said Deputy Jonathon Dempsey was sitting on the shoulder of Interstate 85 with his lights on shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday when his patrol car was hit by another driver.
After the impact, the sheriff’s office said Dempsey got out and helped the driver. The driver was later found to be drunk.
“We are beyond thankful to report that Deputy Dempsey did not sustain any injuries,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
