DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead.

Interim police Chief James Conroy told Channel 2's Darryn Moore the shooting happened at the Alden Ridge Apartments on Post Oak Drive, just off Brockett Road, early Friday morning.

Conroy said officers were called to the complex because of a man yelling and banging on doors.

One officer confronted the man and the suspect pulled out what the officer believed was a gun, Conroy said, and the officer shot the man.

The man was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital and later died.

None of the officers involved were hurt.

Conroy said the gun was a replica, but the man had other weapons on him.

Alden Ridge Apartment's management released the following statment about the incident:

Alden Ridge is cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation of this incident. The security of our residents is of the utmost concern to us, and as we cooperate with the investigation, we will evaluate ways to improve the safety of our community.
