Dekalb County police are investigating a double shooting at the Highlands of East Atlanta apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road.

This is the third high-profile shooting Channel 2 Action News has covered at this apartment complex in the last six months.

Neighbors say living at the Highlands of East Atlanta apartment complex is like living in a war zone.

One woman, who does not want to be identified, was inside her apartment when she heard gunshots Sunday afternoon. She immediately tried to protect her infant grandson.

"I had to push him way back to the back because I didn't know where the bullets, the shooting was coming from," the woman said.

Police are calling the Highlands of East Atlanta a nuisance.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes obtained documents that show since Jan. 1 police have been called  to Highlands of East Atlanta more than 60 days, often times several times a day.

In December, someone shot a 4-year-old boy while he was riding his big wheel. The next month someone else shot and killed Sariah Wilcoxson, 17, at a nearby bus stop.

Property managers released the following statement:

"A meeting is scheduled with the DeKalb commissioner next week, to discuss how both the property and the police dept can better coordinate efforts to reduce crime. Not only in the community, but in the surrounding area, which police have indicated has an overall crime problem… A neighbor watch meeting is scheduled with the residents next week."
