DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies evacuated residents and called a SWAT team Tuesday as they searched for a murder suspect.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said an incident was reported while deputies were serving a warrant in the 5000 block of Amethyst Point.

Public Information Officer Cynthia Williams confirmed with Jones that the suspect, DeShawn Martin Subar, was taken into custody around 3:15 p.m.

“We did ask him, 'What made you come out?' and he said that, 'I just wanted to be peaceful,'” Chief Deputy Reginald Scandrett said.

They communicated with him via a "throw phone" they delivered inside the home and after four hours they got him to come out peacefully.

Neighbors who had been evacuated because of the standoff say they're glad it’s over.

“It's a lot of inconvenience,” one resident said. “I been out here for a couple of hours now.”

Deputies say three other people who were inside the home have been detained.

The standoff also forced a bus route to be diverted.
