Mid-year pay raise approved for Dunwoody Police Department

DUNWOODY, Ga. — The Dunwoody City Council voted Monday night to approve a mid-year pay increase for police officers, detectives, sergeants, and lieutenants.

The raise will go into effect on August 4 and averages about a 10 percent increase.

That’s in addition to the 4 percent increase at the beginning of the year.

Since 2021, the city has adjusted pay for police six separate times to remain competitive in recruiting and retaining talented officers and detectives.

As a result, since then officers and detectives have seen pay increases of 38.9 percent.

The starting pay for a police officer with a high school degree and no public safety experience at the end of 2020 was $44,567.

The city increased that starting pay to $56,970 starting in August. The starting pay for a police officer with a bachelor’s degree and five years of public safety experience at the end of 2020 was $49,794. The city has increased that starting pay to $68,544, effective August 2023.

In addition to the pay raises, the Dunwoody Police Department offers benefits like a take-home vehicle program, a $10,000 signing bonus, an $800 per month housing stipend for living in the city limits, full medical coverage for the employee and 90% coverage for family members starting on the first day of work, free membership to a fitness center, 15 paid holidays, $2,500 in additional pay for SWAT officers, and more.
