TUCKER, Ga. — The City of Tucker will discuss how it uses Flock Safety automated license plate readers and the cost of the city’s contract.
The city council will vote on whether or not to request that DeKalb County be the party responsible for the cameras and take over the costs.
Tucker does not currently have its own municipal police department and is serviced by DeKalb County police.

However, the city does have its own contract with Flock, having entered an agreement with Flock in 2023 to have more than a dozen ALPRs in the city limits. Tucker first contracted with Flock in 2019.
According to city documents, Tucker officials no longer want to cover the costs.

“In recent years, the County has expanded its use of Flock technology to support its Real Time Crime Center,” a memo to the city council says. “In light of this, the City recently requested that the County assume the City’s contract for 15 cameras, a cost of $37,500 annually, plus contingency.”
The move follows Tucker personnel developing and implementing a workplace camera use and viewing policy, requiring privacy safeguards and strict approval for access, even “while still recognizing the continuing need for cameras for security purposes in city facilities and parks.”
Per the newly adopted policy, no City of Tucker employees are able to access and use the Flock LPR system cameras.
Only the City Manager, John McHenry, is authorized to adjust the system’s internal settings to allow for searches.
The resolution to shift responsibility for the program over to the county is on the agenda for Monday’s Tucker City Council meeting.
If approved by council, they would begin send the request to county officials.
According to a DeKalb County spokesman, no such request has been sent to the county government yet, even if tentative.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Channel 2 Action News has reached out to DeKalb County officials for comment on the request.
