DUNWOODY, Ga. — A member of the Atlanta United Under-15 Academy team was killed in a car accident Sunday, Dunwoody police confirmed.
Christian Carrillo, a goalkeeper on the U-15 team, was killed in a crash on I-285 early Sunday. Details of the accident were not immediately released.

Atlanta United President Darren Eales said in a tweet, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Christian Carrillo.”
Carrillo was previously a member of the Atlanta United Academy Under-14 team last year.
A verified GoFundMe has been set up for Carrillo’s family to help with funeral expenses.

The Atlanta United Academy is a developmental program for young players. According to its website, “The Atlanta United Academy system provides a clear pathway for players who show the required potential, ability and desire to reach the first team as a homegrown player. With education and futures in mind, the program also assists athletes in pursuing opportunities to play soccer at top colleges and universities across the United States.”
