DUNWOODY, Ga. — Officers were able to safely take a mentally ill man into custody after he made his way up a Dunwoody church bell tower and then refused to come down.

Investigators with the Dunwoody Police Department said the man walked into the preschool at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church on Mt. Vernon Road around noon on Tuesday and made his way to the church bell tower.

Teachers and staff at the pre-school moved the children to another area of the church while police attempted to get the man down.

As police were talking with the man, he jumped down from the bell tower onto the church roof, and then eventually into a tree.
