Here’s what the new North DeKalb Mall could look like

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Developers have released ambitious new plans to redevelop North DeKalb Mall, which at the moment is mostly vacant.

Edens, which acquired the property last year, gave a community presentation earlier this week that showed renderings of site plans, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The real estate company plans to transform the 77-acre property into a mixed-use community catering towards younger crowds with a focus on walkability and a work, live play model. Officials said they plan to keep the AMC theater and surrounding mall structure, though it will be smaller.

The plan, which would be completed by the end of the decade, would include nearly 2,000 residential units and more than half a million square feet of retail and office space. A grocery store has already been approved.

Developers said they anticipate the property will attract single professionals, young couples without children and older people who want to make a lifestyle change.

The property will also be renamed.

“We can definitively say there will be a new name,” Herbert Ames, senior vice president and southeast regional lead for Edens, said during the virtual community meeting. “We don’t know what that is yet.”

Construction is set to begin in early 2023.

Edens also developed Atlanta’s West Village community and North Druid Hill’s Toco Hills mall.
