Gas prices at their lowest level in 12 summers

ATLANTA — If you're traveling by car, your summer vacation could be cheaper than you expect.

Gas prices in Georgia for the month of June are at their lowest level for the start of summer in 12 years.

Prices Channel 2 Action News obtained from AAA Monday reveal the average for regular unleaded in metro Atlanta is $2.15. Statewide, the price is $2.11.

The prices are falling fast. They've been down 30 days in a row.

Drivers we spoke with aren't complaining.

"I work pretty near here so I make sure to go by when it's cheap," said DeKalb County resident Amy Taylor.

QT's corporate spokesman told Channel 2's Linda Stouffer that refineries are operating at record capabilities, which could be why the prices keep dropping.
