School lockdown lifted; officers search for ‘dangerous fugitive’ in neighborhood

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County elementary school was briefly on lockdown for police activity in a nearby neighborhood.

A U.S. Marshals Service inspector said they were looking for a “dangerous fugitive” in the area around Stoneview Elementary this morning, but no shots were fired.

Officials have not yet been able to locate the fugitive.

DeKalb County police told Channel 2 Action News that their officers assisted DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshals with a search warrant on Chupp Road.

As a precaution, the school went into a lockdown.

“The incident does not involve anyone associated with the school. All staff and students are safely inside,” a school district spokesperson said.

The school is working on a letter to send to parents. The lockdown was lifted before noon.
