DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A local restaurant that is part of a well-known chain failed a health inspection in DeKalb County.

The Applebee’s right near Stonecrest Mall is a popular place in South DeKalb.

On June 16 they failed their inspection with a 64.

One customer, Sallay Jusu, told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge she was very disappointed with that score.

Some of the violations include cold held foods not maintained below the required 41 degrees Fahrenheit, flies in the kitchen, excessive debris on the floors in the walk in freezer, and plumbing leaks under the prep sink and dish machine.

The inspector also noted that a worker was handling ready to eat food with bare hands.

The restaurant had a previous inspection of 92 in February.

Sbarge went to find out what is being done to bring the score back up.

The corporate office sent her the following statement:

"Applebee's and Neighborhood Restaurant Partners have the highest regard for the health and welfare of our guests.  We have taken immediate and effective measures to ensure compliance with the health department. The restaurant is thoroughly addressing the issues and using this as a training opportunity for team members in anticipation of the health department re-inspection."

This location must get at least a C in the follow-up inspection or they will be asked to voluntarily close until everything is fixed.

We’ll keep you updated on the re-inspection and new score.
