GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A home owner says she and her father lost $1,000 to the couple for housework that has still not been done. Most of the work was on the front porch, replacing wood and doing gutter work.
The family said they fell for the same pitch others have gone for-- a cancer story cops say was entirely made up.
Sandra Little made her plea to a magistrate judge. She was freed on bail, but is now back behind bars.
She and her husband, Norman Little, are both accused of taking money from more victims.
Shirleen Degreinier says her elderly father fell for the pitch, giving the Littles nearly $1,000 and a pressure washer for work that was never done.
Snellville police and Gwinnett County detectives now say they have a combined 17 victims so far. Many of them, authorities say, were told a story of how Sandra Little had cancer.
“Our detectives have determined that's not true,” Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith said.
Police said Little would sometimes approach people in the aisles of home improvement stores. Investigators have tracked cases from April of this year to just days before the couple was arrested.
“We are confident there are other people who are out there who've been taken advantage of. We want them to come forward,” Smith said.
