COBB COUNTY, Ga. — We've all seen Girl Scouts troops set up in front of stores selling those famous cookies.

Proceeds from cookies sales will put Girl Scout Troop 14392 one step closer to a summer trip to Washington, D.C.

But police say someone saw a Girl Scout at the Kroger on Floyd Road in Mableton and saw a chance to steal.

“The money goes to that trip, which is taking away from us,” Girl Scout Mackenzie O'Goggins said.

“All I could think about was who could feel, like, to steal from girls,” Girl Scout Haley Rolnick said.

Cobb County police said the thief swiped a bag full of $175 of the troop’s money.

O’Goggins’ grandmother, Deree Causey, said it happened so fast while they were selling cookies at the store.

“I had the bag under my arm. I was getting some recycling bags, and the next minute, it was gone,” Causey said.

It was around 4 p.m. when she made the realization.

“I felt really bad that happened,” Causey said. “I knew it wasn’t there because I had it on me, but I kept looking, thinking I was going to find it.”

But everyone found a reason to smile again after calling Cobb County police.

Officer Turner and Officer Statham responded and bought 16 boxes for the department and 911 dispatchers.

“Then we learned about the nice policemen and everyone at the dispatcher. It was pretty cool,” Girl Scout Ava Peyton said.

“They wanted to help us make up for the money that we lost from those people that stole from us,” Mazzie Robinson said.

The troop out of Paulding County is still on for its summer trip, and the girls aren’t letting anyone steal their joy.

“We have good people that will help us when something bad has happened,” Reilly Robinson said.

There are surveillance cameras at the store, but police said they don’t have any video to release at this time.
