CONYERS, Ga. — Police are searching for a masked man who burst into a Conyers apartment and opened fire, killing one person inside.

According to Conyers police spokeswoman Kim Lucas, police received a 911 call around 3 a.m. regarding a person shot on Mill Crest Walk at the Meadow Crossing Apartments. Once officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Jarvis Hughes fatally shot inside one of the apartments.

Hughes' mother said she think her son knew his killer. Police also said Hughes' girlfriend was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

"The 911 caller, female, was in the residence at the time and she called us," Lucas said. "We don't have a description of a suspect, we don't have a vehicle description at this point, obviously we're interviewing the female."

"It's somebody he knows because they came in masked, they didn't want to be seen, that's my understanding. But he had a conversation with him before his girlfriend called 9-1-1," Audrey Hughes said.

Audrey Hughes said her son was shot in the head, possibly over drugs.

"They said it was drug related and I want to tell any individual, any person, it ain't worth it," Audrey Hughes said. "Your soul, your mind, your body… ain't worth no drugs."

Hughes said her son was a good person who loved his family and she has a message for his killer.

“Please come forward, please. Don’t be a coward behind your mask, don’t be a coward because you won’t sleep at night, you killed a good boy.”

Police are still investigating.
