Two construction workers rescued from manhole at Georgia Tech Golf Course

ATLANTA — Atlanta firefighters rescued two construction workers from the bottom of a manhole at the Georgia Tech Golf Course.

Both men were found in the manhole just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

The men were working at a construction site near the course, which is located between 14th and 16th streets in northwest Atlanta.

The workers were both unconscious when they were found.

Crews are still trying to determine how they ended up in the manhole.

The Atlanta Fire Department says the workers had been there for 20 to 30 minutes.

“We got our technical rescue unit here very quickly. They're the ones who actually facilitated the rescue," said spokeswoman Janet Ward.

Crews were able to use a pulley system to pull the men out of the manhole, which raw sewage flows through.

The men became alert as they were pulled out and were both taken to the hospital.
