Congrats! 2 critically endangered birds hatch at Zoo Atlanta

ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta is celebrating the hatchings of two new birds that are listed as critically endangered.

The zoo made the announcement Wednesday on its Facebook page.

The Bali mynah chicks were raised by first-time parents who were recommended to breed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Bali Mynah Species Survival Plan.

The zoo said the Bali mynah is one of the most endangered species at Zoo Atlanta, and every hatching is critical.

“Collection for the pet trade has dramatically reduced the wild population,” the zoo said.

Zoo Atlanta estimates there may only be around 20 birds in the wild on their native island of Bali.
