Company partners with Ga. Tech to help cultivate startups

ATLANTA — A company that recently moved its headquarters to Atlanta and brought more than 1,000 high-paying jobs with it just announced a $1 million partnership with Georgia Tech that could help grow the local economy.

Worldpay is giving the money to Georgia Tech's Advanced Technology Development Center. The company hopes this will help attract the next innovators of financial technology.

In a news conference Tuesday, Worldpay and Georgia Tech officials made the announcement. The president and CEO of Worldpay said the money will fully fund a new financial technology accelerator that will include a financial technology expert who will mentor startups. Worldpay experts will also mentor entrepreneurs at the center in hopes that the next generation of financial technology will be built in Georgia.

"What we're doing with Georgia Tech is helping startup companies who are pushing the envelope around these types of solutions succeed. Helping mentor them, access to the type of data they need to do this," said Worldpay CEO Tony Catalfano.

Worldpay is moving its headquarters from Sandy Springs to Atlantic Station starting in June.
