ACWORTH, Ga. — A woman is dead and two people are in the hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision in Acworth Thursday night.

Investigators believe one of the drivers may have had a medical issue that led to the collision.
The crash happened at around 9:18 p.m. on Lake Acworth Drive near the intersection with Cottage Oak Drive.

Investigators say a 2017 Ford F-150 driven by 47-year-old Timothy Tippins of Woodstock was traveling eastbound when it entered the westbound lane, striking the 2007 Nissan Armada driven by Barbara Sotelo, 44, of Acworth. A girl was also riding in Sotelo’s vehicle.
Tippins may have had a medical event that caused his vehicle to veer into the wrong lane, according to the information released by the Cobb County Police Department Special Operations STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit.
The front left of the Ford hit the front left of the Nissan. The truck then traveled south before coming to rest between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Lake Acworth Drive.
The Nissan wound up in a northerly direction at the entrance to Cottage Oaks Drive.
Sotelo was taken by ambulance with life-threatening injuries to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her next-of-kin has been notified.
The girl who was a passenger in Sotelo’s vehicle was seriously injured, as was Tippins.
Cobb County PD’s STEP Unit is helping the Acworth PD investigate the crash.
