COBB COUNTY, Ga. — After a terrifying shooting in a Cobb County mall over the weekend, Channel 2 Action News has learned one of the suspects arrested and charged in the incident is already out of jail.

People ran for cover at Cumberland Mall Saturday afternoon when shooting began.

Cobb County police poured through surveillance video and identified Zaire Dhanoolal, 18, as the gunman who fired the shots after an argument with another man.

Police told Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Chris Jose that they also charged Joweer Ponce, 19, for his alleged role in the shooting that took place in the food court.

“There was a lady with her children. She was in pure pandemonium. She didn’t know what was going on," one shopper told Channel 2 Action News shortly after the shooting Saturday.

According to arrest warrants made public on Monday, Jose learned that Dhanloolal shot the man in the neck/shoulder area of his body. That man is expected to survive, according to officers.

Police say Dhanloolal also pointed the gun at another man.

Jose went to that victim’s home on Monday, but a woman who answered the door told him that man doesn’t live there anymore.

Investigators say Ponce brought a gun to the mall.

The 19-year-old’s arrest warrant shows he “dropped the weapon” on the floor during an “altercation.”

Police said Ponce didn’t have a conceal carry permit, and they’re not sure if his gun was used in the shooting.

Jail records show Ponce is out on a $10,000 bond, charged with two misdemeanors.

Dhanoolal is charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Court records show officers arrested him last year for loitering with a gun at a local motel.
