KENNESAW, Ga. — A Kennesaw State University student was found dead in his off-campus student housing unit after his mother called in a welfare check.
She had not heard from him in about 10 days.
Police said in a preliminary report Saturday that none of Larry Green’s three roommates had noticed the smell of a decomposing body.
A preliminary investigative report shared with Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell that his death wasn’t being ruled as suspicious.
According to a police report shared with Newell, Green’s mother called police after she had not heard from her son since Aug. 19, asking for a welfare check.

She told officers her son was diabetic and had known mental health issues.
Green’s vehicle was found in the apartment complex’s parking garage, covered in dust and appeared not to have been moved for several days, according to a police report.
Leasing office staff arrived shortly before 11 a.m. and escorted officers to Green’s apartment to do the welfare check.

One of Green’s roommates let officers and staff in and police immediately “smelled a distinct rotten odor emitting from Green’s room.”
The door to Green’s room was locked, and when they knocked there was no response.
Officers noted the “smell grew stronger near Green’s room,” and identified it as “commonly associated with decomposition.”
The roommate who let officers in told them he had just moved in Aug. 14 and had never seen Green, but another roommate had lived there longer. That roommate said he had last seen Green around that same date.
A third roommate said he hadn’t seen Green either, when interviewed by police.
When officers made entry into the room after having the residents leave, they found Green dead on the bathroom floor.
Crime scene technicians were called in, along with the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police informed Green’s mother that he had died and the ME took possession of the body.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Green died of natural causes.
