“1980, ‘81, and ‘82. We were in the mix three years in a row,” Belue said.
Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen was in the booth for Belue’s daily sports show Thursday at the studios of 680TheFan at The Battery in Cobb County.
Before he launched his successful career in broadcasting, Belue helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs to the 1980 College Football National Championship.
“Those were glorious times for the fans and the players. And now, here we are again,” Belue said.

“The Georgia Bulldogs, looking to run it back,” Belue told his audience.
He couldn’t be more impressed with “today’s” team.
They have a chance to win it back-to-back.
It’s an accomplishment the Bulldogs teams Belue played for during those glory days came very close to doing.

He’s not surprised that four decades later, this is all happening again.
“Same formula for success. You get outstanding players. You have a coaching staff that can coach the players up and get the most out of them,” Belue said. “Great fans that support the program and football team as well as any in the country. It’s a formula for success.”
