People in one Cobb County neighborhood are feeling a little less safe after thieves went on a spree hitting nearly a dozen unlocked cars.
Residents are convinced that teenagers are the ones responsible for the overnight crimes, primarily because of what wasn't taken: electronics, jewelry, or anything else that could possibly be traced.
The thieves did take one piece of sentimental jewelry – a wedding ring.
"It may not be worth much to them, but to us, we've been married 21 years, and it means a lot to us," resident Laura Urbanski said.
Urbanski's husband's wedding ring has been missing since their car was broken in to.
Someone went through driveways in the Hickory Springs subdivision in Kennesaw flipping car handles, looking for unlocked cars.
"Went into my husband's car, took his backpack and then exchanged it with another backpack, left those electronics, threw it in my neighbor's yard and went on their way," Urbanski said.
The thieves may not have realized a wedding ring was inside the black North Face backpack they stole.
"It's teenagers just trying to get quick money," Urbanski said.
Dale Cameron lives around the corner from Urbanski and his car was also broken in to.
"It's really kind of a big deal," Cameron said.
Thieves stole some cash and cigars from his car. Some of the cigars were found strewn on the tennis court at the subdivision clubhouse.
Another neighbor, Peter Conway, also left his car door unlocked and became a victim.
The thieves took a watch out of his car, but it was later found in his neighbor's yard.
A total of 11 cars were broken in to.
"You're not safe no matter where you are, no matter where you live," Urbanski said.
Residents said these were all crimes of opportunity, a reminder to keep car doors locked no matter where you live.
